I provide counselling to people in Bedford and online experiencing a long-term chronic condition and also to those supporting them.
Welcome, and thank you for visiting CB Counselling Services in Bedford.
You may be affected by a chronic condition and struggle to function properly from day-to-day. You may know somebody like this or support
someone yourself. Understandably, at times it can be really upsetting having to deal with a condition every day, maybe for a lifetime. In my experience, people will often try hard to hide their chronic condition. We are behind mental health in terms of discussing how chronic illness can affect our wellbeing. The physical challenge of dealing with Diabetes and chronic illness can create a mental challenge and this is where counselling can help. Diabetes/chronic illness not only affects the person diagnosed with the condition but also their family and other loved ones who are supporting them through the challenge. My counselling service and support can help anyone affected.
People with Diabetes and those supporting them are at a heightened risk of poor mental health. Examples can manifest themselves in various ways including:
All of the above are treatable disorders. If you are diabetic, it is important to be aware of your feelings and moods about the
condition. Similarly, if you are supporting someone, know how your own mood and outlook is altering over time.
I have a lot of experience in this field. I understand the heavy burden of self -management. Often, there isn’t the opportunity to discuss with anyone how Diabetes is affecting your mental health. At hospital appointments for example, they can be more focused on the overall control of your Diabetes and glucose levels than your ability to cope living with the
condition. Anger, denial, fear and depression are common and normal feelings for people newly-diagnosed and suffering from Diabetes. It can be a real source of strength to be able to reach out and talk to someone who understands what
you are going through. I can provide help and support for :-
I am an integrative counsellor which means I use a variety of approaches allied to my knowledge of Diabetes and other chronic conditions to tailor an approach that suit each individual and their needs. You can expect a safe non-judgemental space where you will be able to explore your relationship with whatever condition you have. Furthermore, what interventions and techniques can be taken on board to help manage your condition and improve your outlook on everyday life.
I always offer a free 15minute consultation. This gives you the opportunity to explain the difficulties you are having and to decide if you think I am the right counsellor to help you.
“The opportunity to express myself and explore my thoughts and feelings in a safe space was so valuable. It helped me better understand the place I was at emotionally, and to make a clear decision to move on from there.”
“I was nervous about starting counselling and a little scared at what might find myself saying! Jane was a supportive and understanding guide through therapy, and her trust and solidarity were very important. I would recommend her very highly as a counsellor.”
RICHARD, ONLINE COUNSELLING
“As a parent I think most people feel nothing is ever going to be perfect - we struggle on, day-to-day, as best we can. Talking to Jane I realise that there’s much more to it than this, current stresses and also past experiences that shape how I behave as a family member, and that I have the power to change the way I deal with those things. Thank you Jane for helping me get to this place of understanding.”
“Jane is a very warm and understanding counsellor. She helped me explore different aspects of my life and relationships without hurry, and let me take things at a pace I was comfortable with. I am so grateful for our work together, and for having her as a guide.”
